I started looking into weight loss surgery about 3 months ago. My weight had been creeping back up on me since December and I was having difficulty with my left foot. I decided somethiing needed to change. I knew that a traditional diet was not what I had in mind. It needed to be something more. I had looked into weight loss surgery about four years prior and like many others out there, found out that my insurance did not cover it. Okay, move forward. I started excersing faithfully, more than any other time in my life. And I started eating better. And I saw some success. I also spoke with my doctor about Phentermine, a prescription drug that causes a change in your mental thoughts towards food. These three things combined, led me to a 25 lb. weight loss. That was about 4 years ago. I was never able to lose any more than that despite my daily efforts to become more healthy.
In December my doctor took me off the Phentermine. My weight, since then has been creeping back up. I have now gained almost all of my weight back and well on my way to my what my heighest weight ofa ll time was, 254. I'm not there yet and hopefully I won't be.
So a few months ago I had the thought to research weight loss srugery again. I looked up my health insurance company online and discovered that they did, in fact, cover it. I was overcome with joy at this news. My next step was to choose a surgeon/s to speak with and find out my options.
Up next, tomorrow: How I chose a surgeon.
